No - Not New Software!

When you have been working with software at a firm for a long time, whether it is 1 year or 15 years, changing to a new system can be difficult. There are many reasons to upgrade or migrate to new software, but when the decision has been made there is usually no going back.

If the system you are migrating to is Aderant Expert, you are lucky. It is not like most systems, an off the shelf system is like going to a local computer shop an buying something that gets installed. You can customise slightly but not exactly to your needs. A bespoke system is totally tailored to the company. This is an extremely expensive and time consuming effort. If done by an external company, the company has to spend time understanding how your business works as well as then interpret the spec.

Aderant Expert is between the two. As a financial system, the Aderant team works with the firms finance department to see how their processes work, then applies that to the system. This may not be the case for the end user. Migration can be used as a change in process, especially for front end user. If you did your compliance searches in several different locations, Google, interaction, your document management system, this may be brought into the Aderant Expert system. One place to search for you will save you time.

With any system when you migrate the first few weeks are terrible, you can’t use the software without thinking about it, then it will slowly become 2nd nature and a month after you start using it you will be using it without thought.
